As the end of the year approaches, we all make promises. Sometimes, we actually keep them but for the most part, the promises are empty and made with no intention of keeping them.
Some people resolve to be more prosperous, and others resolve to simply se their children grow up to be productive adults.
A few area citizens were asked about their New Year's resolutions. These are their responses.
West Tampa CDC Economic Manager Michael Randolph: "I want to continue to empower people. That's my purpose in life. This is really my passion. People needs jobs, an affordable place to live and just the quality of life is very important. I want to be instrumental in helping people make that happen."
City of Tampa Code Enforcement Director Curtis Lane: "I had really stopped making resolutions, because I never keep them. But for 2008, I'd like to try to live a healthy, productive life and help as many as I can along the way."
Howard W. Blake head football coach Sean Washington: "I resolve to get it right. I would love to get some more quality athletes at Blake. I think we lack a good game plan, and I think we'll do something different in 2008. I hope God blesses me with a scoring offense. I've hired a new offensive coordinator and I guarantee things will get better in 2008.
"I'd also like to lose a couple of pounds, and get some lineman on both sides of the ball as well as some linebackers. That will be the best thing for me in 2008."
Sickle Cell Director Frank Reddick: "I want to continue to play a role in developing my community. I want to grow more spiritually. I'll pray for good health and continue to be productive in the community and in the lives of others."
Gussie Livingston: "To give and do my best to be a good person and hope others realize how important life is and to make it to another year. We need to start being good to each other.
"The world is in trouble. We've got to go back and remind people there is a real God. I'm glad the foundation that was laid for me and my siblings made us all better people. We don't have the caring and sharing.
Parents don't want to be parents anymore. They just stand back and let the children raise themselves. We've got to reestablish the discipline, power and respect to the family."
